What Can I Do ?                   by Carl McMurray

The title is a worthy question often asked by sincere Christians when it is observed that there is a task at hand, a work to be done, or goals to be reached for. Gospel Meetings, such as ours beginning this Friday evening would certainly fit into this group so it would be expected that some might have this question. May I make a few suggestions?

I can attend every service. If I cannot do a single thing more, I CAN show my love for Jesus and my brothers and sisters by putting self and other activities aside this coming weekend and attend every service. What an encouragement one’s presence is.

I can pray for this meeting. Beginning today, I can pray all week, fervently, for the preacher, Rennie Frazier. I can pray for the song leaders, the leaders of public prayers, weak members, and for the lost. I can pray for friends, myself and the church as a whole

I can invite others. To try and fail, when it comes to sharing the gospel, is no shame at all, but to fail to even try, especially with people that we care about, ought to be embarassing.

I can help others who did manage to bring visitors. Greeting and welcoming visitors is just as important as bringing them ourselves. Speaking to them after every service and letting them know we appreciate their efforts and interest is vital to encouraging them to return. This is job one, for everyone.

I can make it convenient for visitors. Leaving the back seats for late comers and visitors  is easy if we will try to fill the front seats first. Being there early enough to invite a visitor to sit with us is even better.

I can help with the preaching. I can help with prayers, both private and public. I can pump up the preacher by giving him my best attention, taking notes, nodding, and saying amen when I agree. Introduce him to your visitors and commend him if he does a good job.

I can help prepare people’s minds. If your leading, lead familiar songs that even visitors will know and that touch our hearts. If your in the audience, watch and follow the song leader and sing like you mean it. Sing to praise Jesus, sing to give thanks, sing to teach and speak to others. If you’re leading prayers, go to the mic and LEAD. Speak to be heard and speak to the Father. You see, you CAN so something to help this gospel meeting.
