What we do...
Our work and worship is simple. We will only do what we can find in the New
Testament. If what we’re doing cannot be found in the New Testament, we’ll
gladly give it up. If we’re not doing something that is revealed in the New
Testament, we’ll gladly begin doing it. The work of the Anderson church of
Christ is three-fold:
1)
preach the gospel (Mark 16:15-16);
2)
edify each member to spiritual maturity in Christ (Ephesians 4:11-16);
3)
provide benevolence to saints in need (I Timothy 5:9-16).
So much of the religious world has gone after the "social gospel" and has
neglected man’s most pressing need---the salvation of his soul. This is the goal
of our work (I Peter 1:8-9, 22-25).
Our worship is also very easy to identify from the New Testament
Scriptures. It is simple, yet dignified. Our aim is to glorify and honor God,
not man. We assemble each Lord’s Day to engage in acts of worship. We
break bread together to remember our Lord in His death (Acts 20:7; I
Corinthians 11:26). We offer fervent prayer (Acts 2:42). We
sing hymns without the accompaniment of instruments (Hebrews 2:12;
Ephesians 5:19). The Lord’s Word is preached (Acts 2:42; I
Corinthians 2:1-5). The members give so that the work of this
local church can be supported (I Corinthians 16:1-2). Visitors are never
solicited for money! The contribution is the responsibility of members.
We want to do all things "decently and in order" (I Corinthians 14:40).
Our mission...
We are interested in the
souls of all regardless of gender, ethnic background, or religious creed. We believe all can study the
Bible and come to a common understanding of what God
has said through His Son. We encourage you to do this and should you have questions concerning your study or what we have written here please contact us
so that we can "search the
Scriptures" and find God’s answer
as He is Truth!
Who we are...
We want you to know just
who we are and what we claim to be. We do not claim to be the only right
religious people you’ll find. God alone knows who are His (II Timothy 2:19).
However, what we do strive to be is the church one reads about in the New
Testament. We oppose the religious division found in mainstream
denominationalism. Christ prayed for unity (John 17:21) and died to establish
His church (Matthew 16:18). We want to be His people---a New Testament church of
Christ, a people belonging to Him. Therefore, those
of us that are members of
the Anderson church of Christ have obeyed God’s
Plan for
Salvation---
Hear the word of God (Romans 10:17);
Believe
the word of God (Hebrews 11:6);
Repent of our sins (Luke 13:3);
Confess that
Jesus Christ is the Son of God (Romans 10:9-10);
Baptized for the remission of our sins (Acts 2:38);
Live faithful
until death (Revelation 2:10).
